The major stock indices made another strong kick save last week and remain within close proximity to all-time highs.
The major stock indices made another strong kick save last week and remain within close proximity to all-time highs. That can’t be said about the average stock, as underlying internals continue to weaken. The S&P 500 (SPX) was flat for the week, the Nasdaq 100 (NDX) rose 1%, the S&P MidCap 400 (MDY) fell 1.7%, and the S&P SmallCap 600 (SML) lost another 2%. Since August 14 (24 days), the MDY and SML have declined more than 7% while the S&P 500 Equal Weight is down 5%. NYSE breadth has averaged -312 issues over that period, the weakest reading since the March 2026 low.

The stock market fell right off the bat on Monday and then attempted a recovery.
The stock market fell right off the bat on Monday and then attempted a recovery. But the sellers came back in what can be best described as a late-summer chop fest. Volume on the S&P 500 was at one of the lowest levels since December 2025, while volume on the Nasdaq 100 picked up a bit. Nvidia fell 3% and the stock has been weak over the past five days heading into the company’s key earnings report. Volume in NVDA was the highest since August 5, and the stock declined right to its 50-day average. The stock has been a loose cannon of late, but ultimately hasn’t gone anywhere in four months.

Argus Quick Note: Weekly Stock List for 08/24/2026: What Did the Heavy Hitters Buy in 2Q?
Vickers Stock Research, a subsidiary of Argus Research Group, tracks and analyzes insider trading and institutional stock ownership trends. Form 13-Fs, which institutions must file to report their holdings, are due 45 days after the end of calendar quarters, and have now come in for 2Q26. We like to review the 13Fs of the major investors — including Two Sigma, Ark Investments, Citadel, and Berkshire Hathaway, among others — in order to determine their core holdings and new purchases. Here are some recent new purchases and key holdings of some of the bigger institutional investors, according to Vickers. The ratings noted are the Argus rating.

Robinhood’s Aggressive Product Innovation Has Borne Fruit Amid Burgeoning Retail Investment Appetite
Robinhood is a diversified financial services provider best known for its retail brokerage platform, which historically caters to a young, risk-seeking clientele that trades heavily on margin and in higher-risk asset classes like options, futures, cryptocurrencies, and more recently, in prediction markets. As those customers’ financial needs have begun to mature, Robinhood has rolled out a suite of more conventional products, from retirement accounts to high-yield cash sweep accounts to nascent advisory services (Robinhood Strategies). With $322 billion in customer assets and 27 million active accounts at year-end 2025, the firm has emerged as a significant player in the large, growing US brokerage market.
